French nun Thérèse of Lisieux (Therèse Martin) dies of tuberculosis at age 24 in the Carmelite convent of Lisieux, Normandy, which she entered at 15. Her History of a Soul (Histoire d'une âme), published posthumously, will illustrate her "little way" of simple, trusting Christianity. It will gain wide popularity, she will be canonized in 1925, and in 1947 she will be associated with Joan of Arc as patron saint of France.
